The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has assured the Karnataka Government that it is keen to work on the establishment of an LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminal at New Mangalore Port.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday after the 20th annual general meeting of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), Mr R.S. Sharma, Chairman of MRPL and Chairman and Managing Director of ONGC, said: "We are still searching for LNG from two to three sources. I have assured the Karnataka Chief Minister during a recent meeting with him in Bangalore that we would be keen to work on the establishment of LNG terminal at New Mangalore, subject to sourcing of LNG."

It may be mentioned that ONGC's proposed investments in Mangalore SEZ project include the establishment of an LNG terminal at New Mangalore Port among others.
