Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 5 The proposed international container transhipment terminal at Vizhinjam, near here, has received security clearance from the Union Defence Ministry.

The implementation of the project had recently been awarded to a consortium led by the Hyderabad-based Lanco Kondappally Company after a global tender. The other members of the consortium are Lanco Infratech and Pembinan Redzai of Malaysia.

The project, which is estimated to cost Rs 5,400 crore, is envisaged to be implemented in three phases. The State Government had formed a company – Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd – to coordinate the execution of the project.
