Work on Vallarpadam project set to begin

Kochi, Aug. 5

The State Chief Minister will officially announce the completion of acquisition and handling over of land required for the rail and road connectivity for the International Container Transhipment Terminal at Vallarpadam at a function to be held here on August 10.

The Ernakulam District Collector said that the distrct adminstration had acquired 108 acres of land from Kalammassery to Vallarpadam for setting the up the NH connectivity and around 10.82 acres of land from Edappally to Vallarpadam for setting up the rail line. The State Government also awarded adequate compensation packages for 327 families who were displaced from their land.

With the completion of all acquisition formalities, it is expected that the connectivity projects will be ready prior to the commissioning of the Vallarpadam Terminal by Novemebr 2009.
