Hydrolina Biotech’s plans

Chennai, Aug. 6

Hydrolina Biotech Pvt Ltd, a Chennai-based biotech company, plans to start retail sales of Spirulina under the brand name ‘Vitalinaa.’ According to Mr L.P. Ravichandar, Managing Director, Hydrolina Biotech, the company recently tripled its capacity to produce the blue-green algae, which has wide ranging health and nutritional benefits. Spirulina has gained recognition as a leading nutraceutical and is used as a food supplement and taken directly in the dried fo rm. The company, which has a six-acre facility to culture Spirulina, has a capacity to produce 30 tonnes of Spirulina in the dry form. Hydrolina Biotech has invested over Rs 7.50 crore in the project. It has been a regular supplier of Spirulina to leading pharmaceutical companies. The expansion was to facilitate establishment of its own brand in the market, Mr Ravichandar said.
