AP to set up five nursing schools

Hyderabad, Aug. 6 The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to start five nursing schools at Sanathnagar, Nacharam, Ramachandrapuram, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, at a review meeting of Insurance Medical Services Department (ESI hospitals and dispensaries) has asked ESI Corporation to take steps in this regard as there is a great demand for nurses in hospitals.

The Chief Minister also approved the proposal of the ESI Corporation to upgrade the Sanathnagar ESI Hospital to a 500-bedded hospital from its current 310-bed status. Ramachandraputam ESI hospital will be upgraded to 100 beds (from 68) and Tirupati hospital to 100 beds (from 50).

He also appreciated the Central Government’s decision to extend treatment of ESI members in the Corporate Hospital without any ceiling on the charges.

A release from the Chief Minister’s Office said that while under the ESI scheme the number of insured persons (employees) are 7,45,361, number of beneficiaries (family members) are 45,00,000 and the number of factories or establishments covered are 27,200 in Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister also agreed to sanction financial support of Rs 5.27 crore for proposals for upgrading hospitals already approved by ESI Corporation, while the Government of India will provide Rs 36.93 crore.

Overseas Manpower Co.

Dr Reddy on Wednesday has asked the Overseas Manpower Company Andhra Pradesh Ltd (OMCAP) to transform its business plan and have franchisees in other countries to make it more effective.

At a review meeting, the Chief Minister decided to reduce the registration fees to OMCAP from the present Rs 750 to Rs 200.

The meeting also decided to start international level driving schools with track facilities at some of the Government ITIs in the State, particularly rural ITIs, since land would be available in these institutions.
