Tea Lower volume on offer at Coonoor tea auctions P.S. Sundar Coonoor, Aug. 6 The volume offered for the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) has traced a declining trend for the fourth week in succession. For Sale No. 32 to be held on Thursday and Friday, the volume catalogued has fallen by 83,000 kg over last week’s offer. In all, 12.55 lakh kg would be offered through seven brokers. The volume is higher than last year. This time last year, 11.82 lakh kg were offered. Fresh arrivals continue to be high. Of the 12.55 lakh kg, fresh arrivals total 11.95 lakh kg. The balance comprises teas unsold in previous auctions. CTC, orthodoxOf the 12.55 lakh kg on offer, 8.88 lakh kg belong to leaf grades and 3.67 lakh kg belong to dust grades. As much as 11.83 lakh kg belong to CTC variety and only 0.72 lakh kg to the orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.31 lakh kg belong to orthodox while 8.57 lakh kg are of the CTC variety. Among the dusts, only 0.41 lakh kg belong to orthodox while 3.26 lakh kg are CTC.
