Hyderabad, Aug 6 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, directed R&B, Irrigation, GHMC, Health and Medical and other Departments concerned to take action and repair the damages caused following heavy rains in the State over the last few days.

At a review meeting here on Wednesday, referring to the Palem vagu reservoir breach in Khammam district, the Chief Minister expressed concern and asked Irrigation Department officials to take utmost care in quality control and insist on expert third party inspection under any circumstances.

Mr Reddy was informed that as far as Palem vagu is concerned, subterrain fault is suspected since strangely this happened at the same place two years back.

A release from the Chief Minister’s Office said the meeting also decided that GHMC will take up repairs to all the road damages in GHMC area including the national and State highways.

The Chief Minister was informed that though rain water has inundated 40,000 hectares of crops, it is receding and in a day or two normalcy may be restored without damage to the crops.

On the other hand, damage to livestock was put at 68 and the number of houses damaged is 1,664. District Collectors have been instructed to provide ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased as per Calamity Relief Fund norms. Financial assistance of Rs 4,000 (fully damaged) and Rs 3,000 (severely damaged) was announced to the families whose houses got damaged. Also, as per CRF norms, relief assistance of Rs 1,000 for clothing and Rs 1,000 for utensils or household goods per family was provided.
