Strike affects Kochi Port

V.Sajeev Kumar

Kochi, Aug 06

Movement of containers in Kochi Port has been affected since Tuesday night on account of a flash strike resorted to by trailer crew. The crew went on a flash strike in protest against the decision of the Terminal Operator to close the gates of the container terminal following the congestion inside the terminal.

The workers said that they were denied entry into the terminal with cargo after a long wait. It is pointed out that shortage of equipments as well as the time taken for security clearance of a cargo to the terminal had resulted in congestion inside the terminal. More than 100 trucks are waiting outside with cargo seeking entry into the terminal. However, the work inside the terminal has not been affected and the cargo handling operations are going on in full swing.
