New Delhi, Aug 7

The Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, Dr C. Rangarajan, has put in his papers. It is reliably learnt that Dr Rangarajan has submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh.

Sources said that Dr Rangarajan may be nominated to the Rajya Sabha and this could have prompted his decision to step down.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council will submit its report on the outlook for the economy for 2008-09 to the Prime Minister next Wednesday.

Dr Rangarajan had already indicated that the economy would grow between 7.5 and 8 per cent this year.
