Rlys total earnings rise 21% in April-July

New Delhi, Aug 8 The Indian Railways registered a 21 per cent growth year-on-year in its total earnings for the April 1-July 31 period with the revenues touching Rs 26,397.04 crore.

This was supported by almost 25 per cent growth in freight earnings, which account for around 68 per cent share of total railway revenues. The total goods earnings were at Rs 18,187.71 crore during April 1-July 31 period, up 24.68 per cent from Rs 14,587.55 crore in the corresponding period the previous fiscal.

The passenger revenues during first four months of the financial year 2008-09 were Rs 7,207.33 crore compared to Rs 6331.17 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 13.84 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching activities were at Rs 659.18 crore during April-July 2008 compared to Rs 611.87 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 7.73 per cent.

The sundry earnings have gone up to Rs 342.82 croreduring Apr-Jul 2008, an increase of 31.55 per cent.

According to an official release, the total approximate earnings of the Indian Railways on originating basis during the first four months this fiscal was at Rs 26,397.04 crore against Rs 21791.2 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 21.14 per cent.
