Shipping/Ports Trailer crew withdraw strike at Kochi Port Our Bureau Kochi, Aug. 8 Movement of containers to and from the Kochi Port has begun from Friday morning following the withdrawal of the 3-day old strike by the trailer crew after talks with the port authorities. The crew went on a flash strike since Tuesday night in protest against the restrictions imposed by the terminal operators for the entry of trailers. Though the strike has been called off from Friday morning, the container terminal is still experiencing heavy congestion as there were about 200 containers are waiting outside for entry into the terminal. The DP World officials had deployed additional equipments like 4 stackers and transfer cranes to ease the situation. The trade union leaders, who had distanced themselves from the strike, had met the Kochi Port Chairman, Mr N Ramachandran and assured him that they would try and convince the employees to call off the strike. The Unions had also appealed to the employees not to resort to lightning strikes and to ensure that issues are sorted out through discussions with officials concerned. In a joint statement, the union leaders said that the port authorities had given an assurance to solve the problems faced by trailer workers within a short period.
