AP forms GoM to curb prices

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Aug 8 The Andhra Pradesh Government has formed a Group of Ministers (GoM) to find ways to control the spiralling prices of essential commodities.

Mr K. Rosaiah (Minister for Finance), Mr Kasu Krishna Reddy (Minister for Civil Supplies), and Mr Konathala Ramakrishna (Minister for Commercial Taxes), Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy (Minister for Agriculture) and Mr Botsa Satyanarayana (Minister for Housing) would study the issue in detail and come out with a report.

Constituting the GoM, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister, said the Government would act on the suggestions made by the GoM to bring down prices.

The State also decided to withdraw certain exemptions granted last month to the rice millers and traders. The idea was to make rice adequately available in the State at a reasonable price. “But the traders misused the exemptions. This has led to the withdrawal,” a Government press release said here.

Coordination

The Chief Minister directed the officials of the Civil Supplies Department to coordinate with Rythu Bazaars to sell rice at Rs 14-16 a kg.

The Government also decided to issue the Andhra Pradesh Scheduled Commodities Dealers (licensing, storage and regulation) Order, 2008, for regulating the pulses, wheat, rice, edible oils and edible oil seeds through licences and stock limits. It also decided to verify the stock positions of paddy with the trading rice millers and non-trading rice, traders and exporters.

The Chief Minister asked the Transmission Corporation Andhra Pradesh to see that load shedding is reduced and withdrawn soon, since the reservoirs in the State have been getting good inflows in the last few days.
