Hyderabad, Aug 8 The National Institute of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Nimsme) is looking at creating a Centre of Excellence for the unorganised sector in its Hyderabad campus.

“The proposal has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and we have got to know that it is under discussion,” Dr Chukka Kondaiah, Director General of the Institute, said while addressing a seminar on ‘Promotion of Service Enterprises’ here on Thursday.

According to him, the centre is likely to be set up in the next two to three months with an investment of around Rs 1 crore.

The centre is expected to help in formulation of policy guidelines for the unorganised sector, encourage entrepreneurs to set up units.

“We will be recruiting new faculty and also once the Centre is running take up evaluation and research studies. It will also look at tackling various problems being faced by the unorganised sector in the country,” Mr Kondaiah said.

Earlier, Mr M. Sambasiva Rao, President, Heritage Foods (India) Ltd, said that the service sector was going to boom further and take the economy ahead.
