The Hindu Business Line : Oman waives fines for overstaying

Indians who have overstayed in Oman but are willing to voluntarily leave that country will be exempted from paying fines. The Sultanate of Oman has agreed to waive the fines. The Indian Embassy in Muscat has so far registered 8,146 Indians desirous of availing this gesture of the Oman Government. Media reports in India have been highlighting that these Indian have been forcibly repatriated by the Government of the Sultanate of Oman. Incidentally the Indian Embassy in Muscat also received a call from the Government of Andhra Pradesh expressing concern about such `forcible' repatriation. - Our Bureau
