Private Banks Industry & Economy - NRIs States - Kerala South Indian Bank’s special NRE account Our Bureau Kochi, Aug. 11 South Indian Bank has launched a premium savings bank (SB) account called NRE Savings-Diamond Account for customers who maintain high average balance in their SB accounts. This account offers multi-city and tech-savvy features, adding to customer convenience. Mr M.K. Abdullah, one of the earliest NRI customers of the bank and Chairman of EMKE Group, launched the premium SB account by issuing the First Diamond Account passbook to Mr Edwin Tharakan, a prominent NRI. The Chairman and CEO of the bank, Dr V.A. Joseph, presided over the function. Customers of the feature-rich SB account availing themselves of Any Branch Banking (ABB) facilities can withdraw cash and deposit cheques for collection at any branch of the bank. Customers can also issue ABB cheques, which are payable at par at all branches of the bank. This service is available at all the 511 branches of South Indian Bank, which has established one of the largest core banking branch networks in India in the private sector. The Chairman said the bank is striving hard to render personalised customer service using the latest technological capabilities. The technological capability of South Indian Bank was recognised when the bank bagged the banking technology excellence award from IDRBT — the technical arm of the RBI. He said that Hadi Express Exchange in Dubai, for which management support is being provided by South Indian Bank, has received licences to open branches at Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Rasal Khaima. Funds remitted through the branches of Hadi Express Exchange are credited online to the accounts of the customers within 30 minutes and the beneficiary gets an SMS confirmation. Dr Joseph also referred to the facility recently started for online booking of offerings, free of bank charges, by the customers of the bank who are devotees of Guruvayur Sreekrishna Temple. This facility can be used by NRI customers to render offerings with greater transparency and security at the click of a button, either for themselves or for their parents.
