Fishing boats lying idle on Blangad beach at Chavakkad near Thrissur in Kerala. Shortfall in monsoon rain this season is likely to diminish the catch of pelagic fish such as mackerel and oil sardines. Rainfall cools the sea temperature to a level conducive to spawning of pelagic fish.
