Economy States - Karnataka Karnataka’s annual Plan fixed at Rs 26,052 cr Our Bureau New Delhi, Aug. 12 The annual Plan of Karnataka for 2008-09 fiscal has been finalised at Rs 26,052.53 crore. This includes Central assistance of Rs 100 crore for projects of special interest to the State. This was wrapped up on Tuesday at a meeting between the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr. B.S. Yeddyurappa. While the State has proposed an outlay of Rs 25,952.86 crore for the current fiscal, its Plan size in 2007-08 was at Rs 17,782.5 crore. Even as the Plan panel has drawn attention to the sombre fact that growth in Karnataka continues to be Bangalore-centric with Bangalore city in 2000-01 alone contributing about 22 per cent of the State’s total income, the State Government, in its presentation, sought a special Central assistance of Rs 1,500 crore in the current fiscal for improving the city’s infrastructure. The State contends that Bangalore accounts for close to 30 per cent of IT exports from the country, while its infrastructure needs are beyond the State Government’s capacity. In his opening remarks, Mr Ahluwalia praised the State Government for fiscal performance. More Stories on : Economy | Karnataka
