Hawkers in the economy

The article “Tug-of-war with hawkers” (Business Line, August 13) has argued in favour of hawkers in the economy. It’s indeed true that as long as they (hawkers) sell their wares and earn a living without obstructing the vehicular and pedestrian traffic, they must certainly be encouraged. They are not stealing or killing for gains, but are just trying to live by honest means.

More the productive activities or growth of small businesses, better the growth prospects of the economy.
