Workshop on blood security

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 13 The city-based Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology and the Kerala Chapter of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology are organising a workshop to develop a total blood security plan for Thiruvananthapuram district.

The workshop, which is to be held on August 23 at the Achutha Menon Centre-Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, seeks to address the issue of blood security in the district through the creation of a community blood centre that will serve the blood needs of patients from the district, says a press release.

Currently, India does not have a long-term plan for a comprehensive blood assurance system under which any person admitted to a hospital is assured of blood required for treatment. The workshop is expected to give rise to a citizens’ initiative that will correct this lacuna.
