HAL plans copter base in Quito

Bangalore, Aug. 14

HAL, which recently clinched an export order for seven helicopters from Ecuador, plans to open a maintenance-repair and marketing facility in Quito, the capital of the South American country, according to its Chairman, Mr Ashok Baweja. The advanced light helicopter is India’s star defence product. The ALH, called Dhruv, is a multi-role vehicle than can be used for combat, transport and emergency evacuation or medical services. Having come close to selling the aircraf t in Chile this year, HAL is now focussing its efforts on Bolivia and Peru besides Jordan. The defence PSU expects some repeat orders and the sales number may touch 16-18 copters in the next months, Mr Baweja told.It has a large order for 179 ALHs from the Army and IAF.
