Hyderabad, Aug. 14 Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) and the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) have signed a memorandum of understanding for better emergency management.

“We have signed the MoU to work together on shared goals to readdress the limited institutional capacity in India for strengthening training, research and policy development in the area of public health and emergency management,” Mr Venkat Changavalli, Chief Executive Officer, EMRI, said while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday.

As per the MoU, both organisations would work together to maintain an ongoing forum for discussion, training, research, and other joint activities related to all aspects of prevention, injury care and emergency medical service systems.

“It will also help participation in appropriate public health, injury and emergency medical services systems development, evaluation and improvement with both nationally and internationally accredited curricula,” Dr K. Srinath Reddy, President, PHFI said.

He added that both will work together to establish opportunities, including fellowships, internships, building capacities through short and long term training programmes and research in relevant areas of public health.

MoU with Karnataka

After having signed MoUs with eight State Governments for providing the 108 ambulance services, EMRI is all set to enter into a pact with the Karnataka Government for offering similar services on Thursday.

“As per the current plan, we intend to start the 108 services in Tamil Nadu by the end of August, in Goa from the first week of September, offer the same in Rajasthan from the second week of September, Assam from October, Karnataka from November and in Madhya Pradesh, we expect it to start between October and December,” Mr Changavalli said.
