Medical Institutions & Hospitals States - Andhra Pradesh Reddy reviews activities of medical institutes Our Bureau Hyderabad, Aug. 14 The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has directed officials to complete the 450-bed hospital of the Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) by December 2008. Chairing the 25th executive board meeting of Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS), Tirupati, Dr Reddy reviewed the activities of VIMS and NIMS on Thursday. The Chief Minister was informed that the 1,130-bed hospital of VIMS was taken up in 2006 at a total cost of Rs 209 crore, with 15 blocks for which 110 acres were provided at Chingadili village under Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. In the first phase, the building accommodating 450 beds in six blocks costing Rs 55 crore has been taken up and would be completed by December. Regarding SVIMS, Dr Reddy agreed to a proposal of the institute to upgrade the Oncology Department in the Institute as a Regional Cancer Centre.
