Excise and Customs Customs collection rises 18.7% in July Our Bureau New Delhi, Aug. 14 The Centre’s customs collection continued to be buoyant logging 18.7 per cent growth in July 2008 to Rs 9,792 crore, compared with Rs 8,251 crore in the year-ago period. The Central excise collection during July increased 8.9 per cent to touch Rs 10,227 crore during the period in reference, according to an official release. During the four-month period of the current fiscal, customs realisation increased by 20.3 per cent, while excise revenues were up by 4.4 per cent. As regards service tax, the release said the collection during June increased by 21 per cent to Rs 5,064 crore. During the first quarter (April-June), the service tax collection surged by 29 per cent to Rs 14,838 crore.
