Shipping/Ports Global photography competition Our Bureau
The Container Shipping Information Service has launched a worldwide photography competition to encourage people to think about the huge impact of container shipping has on their lives. Entitled “The Box That Changed Our Lives” and aimed at amateur or ‘have-a-go’ photographers, the competition will run throughout August and September. It will generate awareness of the enormous benefit that container shipping has on our lives. In 2007 alone, the equi
valent of 141 million 20-ft containers moved around the oceans loaded with fresh fruits, clothing, sports goods and various other items. Some container lines are even carrying bulk commodities. Container shipping thus affects every single one of us and this competition is designed to make people think about that. To enter the competition, applicants will email their pictures to photocomp@shipsandboxes.com. The pictures can be of unusual or innovative ways of using containers, such as community centres and housing, or simply the images of the containers in transit on board a ship or lorry. The overall best entry will be picked by a panel of judges. The closing date for entries is September 12. For details one may visit www.shipsandboxes.com
