Postal scheme to aid rural people

Nagapattinam, Aug. 18

The postal department on Sunday launched its pilot scheme, Project Arrow, at the post office in Tirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district.

Ms Indira Krishnakumar, the Principal Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu Circle, said the main objective of the scheme was to provide in rural areas the facilities that were available in the post offices in major cities and towns.

All records and transactions, including money orders and savings bank accounts, have been computerised at the Tirukkuvalai post office.

She said that the postal department had proposed to introduce the scheme at 500 places in the country. It will be introduced in 52 places as a pilot project of which nine places were located in Tamil Nadu, including the one at Tirukkuvalai. - Out Bureau
