Our bureau

Hyderabad, Aug. 19 The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will be implementing the first automated pay & park system to streamline parking in four heavily clogged roads of the twin cities through a joint venture with Smart Interpark India Pvt Ltd.

The system, which will be ready for inauguration this week, will be initially established in the Park Lane and Gandhi Statue (Secunderabad) stretch, Abids, Basheer Bagh and Ameerpet.

Smart Interpark India Pvt Ltd will operate the automated system on a Build-Operate-Share-Transfer basis. The company will install 19 solar-powered parking meters, imported from France, in these areas.

Operational timing

The parking meters will be operational between 9 am and 11 pm. The parking fee for an hour will be Rs 10 for four-wheelers and Rs 5 for two-wheelers with a maximum parking time limit of two hours. Smart Interpark and GHMC will share the revenues generated from these parking lots.

The driver, on parking his vehicle, has to feed the nearest parking meter with details such as vehicle number, duration of parking and insert coins of Rs 5.

Tickets

The meter generates a ticket with details of vehicle number, in-time and exit time, which has to be placed on the windshield of the four-wheeler. Any vehicle overstaying the specified duration of parking or found without a ticket will be towed away to the nearest police station and a fine will be imposed.

Smart Interpark will deploy adequate parking attendants to educate the public on the operation of the machines help vehicle owners with Rs 5 coins if needed, said Mr Mohammed Nazim, the Managing Director of Smart Interpark, said in a press release.
