US sees Bengal as potential market for investments

Our Bureau

Kolkata, Aug 19 Even though there are frequent bandhs in West Bengal, American investors are still considering the State as a potential market for investments, according to the new US Consul General, Ms Beth A Payne.

“People in Washington are talking about investments in West Bengal. The State offers a pro-investment environment,” she said while addressing an interactive session on ‘Outlook for Indo-US economic relations’ organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce, here on Tuesday.

Vast scope

According to Ms Payne, West Bengal’s industrial friendly policies have opened opportunities in a wide variety of areas ranging from iron and steel, information technology, biotechnology, clean energy and tourism.

“The US-India Business Council has included Kolkata as one of the three cities its delegation of businessmen and women will visit on its annual trade mission to India in September.
