Events States - Tamil Nadu Seminar to focus on Chennai’s growth potential Our Bureau Chennai, Aug. 20 Chennai’s economy is set to more than double by 2025 with the growth in manufacturing and services – this would bring with it the challenges of providing for quality living space for the population, which needs to be addressed through long-term planning now, according to Mr G.R.K. Reddy, Chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry - Chennai Zone. Chennai Version 3.0, a one-day conference on August 22, will discuss the implementation of a roadmap to meet the challenges that face the city. Beginning with the auto and auto ancillary industries and the emergence of IT, BPO, banking, retail, healthcare and real estate industries, Chennai is set to grow to a $100-billion economy, which is 2.5 times its present size. Briefing reporters about the scope of the seminar, Mr Reddy said the conference would focus on the opportunities, challenges in sustaining the growth, public-private partnerships to provide world-class social and physical infrastructure and developing a Chennai 2025 mission document with an agenda to make it the “global investment destination”. The action plan for Chennai Version 3.0 will envisage making Chennai a frontrunner in socio-economic development. Key sectors of focus would be skill development and employability, infrastructure, small and medium sectors, development and education. Social excellence would be the key feature of Chennai Version 3.0 as compared with political and governance excellence and economic and technological excellence, the earlier phases of growth, he said.
