Bangalore, Aug. 20 Computer-maker Hewlett-Packard Co has said HP Snapfish, a consumer online photo service, entered into an alliance with online shopping portal Indiaplaza.in to launch a co-branded photo centre.

Snapfish, which was launched in India in October 2007, offers consumers free online photo-sharing, unlimited free online photo storage and digital camera prints, HP said. There are about three lakh registered users in the country, the company added.

The Indian market is one of the key growth drivers for Snapfish and the tie-up will further strengthen its presence in India, said Mr Ben Nelson, General Manager, Snapfish.

According to Gartner, the digital camera market in India was $110 million in 2006 and is expected to grow 20-22 per cent CAGR through 2011, HP said in a statement. The number of mobile users will grow from 185 million to 462 million in 2011, it added.

Huge opportunities

HP said the rise in the use of image-capturing devices translates into huge opportunities for the photo-printing market in India. Snapfish offers photo prints for Rs 2.95 (4x6 size), the company added.

Indiaplaza.in constantly tries to expand the range of services and offerings, said Mr K. Vaitheeswaran, Co-founder and CEO, Indiaplaza.in. Since it is not possible to do it alone the company enters into partnerships, he added. The company said it has about one million customers. Snapfish, a product that was developed by an all-Indian team in India, allows consumers to edit photographs and upload them even at a slow speed, HP said. The prints are delivered within 3 to 7 days across India, the company added.

Mr Bala Parthasarathy, Managing Director, Asia-Pacific and Latin America, Snapfish, said the number of prints ordered is quite high as a percentage of total photographs uploaded. He said mostly young families in India who have just had babies use this service.
