Delhi will get Suzuki’s brand display centre

Priyanka Vyas

New Delhi, Aug. 21 Suzuki Motor Corporation’s first brand display site will be set up in the national capital in the next two months. This would be the second such showroom of Suzuki Motor Corporation worldwide after it set up one in its home country, Japan. The strategy is to propel sales by building a stronger identity of the company, showcasing its global models, when sales in some of the overseas markets have been on a downturn.

“The display centre would have Suzuki’s global models which may not have been launched here. It could also take customers through Maruti’s journey so far by showcasing the evolution of the brand and its models,” said a company spokesperson. The brand site could show cars models to Indian consumers like its concept car Kizashi, which was displayed at the auto expo and future products like Splash which would be making their debut in the Indian market.

The company in its annual report, released this week, has admitted the fierce competition with the entry of many of global auto majors in the domestic market amid a slowdown in some of the other major markets like the US.

Moreover, Suzuki putting up a mega company owned outlet in the country also reflects the significance of the domestic auto market for the company.

Last financial year, Maruti’s domestic sales at 7.11 lakh units and exports at 53,000 units were the highest ever so far.

“While Maruti Suzuki enjoys a strong connect with the Indian consumer, we are taking specific steps to strengthen our leadership over the next 5-10 years,” said Mr Shinzo Nakanishi, MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India.

Earlier this fiscal, Mr Nakanishi had said that its company owned retail outlet would house almost 30 models and variants.

He had also said that the aim to set up a mega display centre was also in view of lack of capacity at its existing dealer’s outlets.

Maruti has over 500 dealers in the country.

The company, however, does not intend to sell its models from the upcoming centre.
