Our Bureau

New Delhi, Aug 21 Real estate company firm Raheja Developers has announced its new engineering SEZ in Gurgaon (adjoining Manesar), spread over 255 acres. “This is the first-ever engineering SEZ to get notification in northern India. It has also received approval for authorised operations,” the Raheja Developers’ Chairman, Mr Navin M. Raheja, said.

The total usable area would be in excess of 20 million sq ft. The processing zone would be developed on minimum of 50 per cent of the area, and the balance area would be utilised to create social infrastructure segmented into residential, commercial, institutional, educational and training facilities among others.

The processing zone would further be segmented into complexes for light and medium engineering goods exporters, and industrial sheds for engineering units. Besides the economic advantages of conducting business in SEZ, the project would provide residential and other supporting facilities as well. There would be about seven million sq ft of residential area. This would allow corporates to now co-locate their offices and residential places in order to save time in commuting, the company said.

The proposed development activities in the processing area would include site development and construction of roads, high quality infrastructure facilities, installation of water supply, sanitation and sewerage systems, power distribution system, telecom facilities, water treatment, construction of factory buildings and commercial spaces for engineering sector and recreational facilities.

The engineering exports has crossed Rs 81,000 crore in the year 2005-06 accounting for 23 per cent of the total exports from India. At the National Capital Region (NCR) level, the engineering exports are likely to grow at 11.5 per cent from Rs 7600 crore in 2007 to Rs 18,300 crore in 2015.
