Software States - Maharashtra India may garner 70% of market in software testing: Gartner Our Bureau Pune, Aug. 22 With global software testing market pegged at $13 billion and the global market for outsourced testing services around $6.1 billion, India is expected to corner 70 per cent share. The market opportunity for Indian offshore testing companies is seen at around $8 billion by the end of 2008, from the $2-3 billion a year ago, according to Gartner. According to Nasscom, while the market for software services is growing at an average of about 10-12 per cent, testing is growing at more than 50 per cent a year. Talking to Business Line, Mr Sai Chintala, Vice-President, Testing, AppLabs, said that over the past couple of years, there has been an increasing interest in outsourcing testing services to India. Prior to this, the trend was to get everything done by developers and business users and invest very little in testing and that often came late. Testing could make up to 25-50 per cent of the software budgets. Earlier the trend from the Indian market was to outsource testing in niche areas such as test automation, security testing and performance testing, but now there is an increased interest in end-to-end testing and test processing consulting, he said. Commenting on AppLabs’ strategy, Mr Chintala said that it was looking particularly at performance testing services and its approach to domestic market is to have at least 10 clients in the next year. The company is looking at $2-3 million turnover in the domestic market in the next year. It is also focussing on the BFSI, retail, pharma, life science and telecom sectors.
