KGLC team lowest bidder for Chennai airport runway

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Aug. 22 The modernisation of Chennai airport is expected to begin soon with the Airports Authority of India identifying the lowest bidders for undertaking runway work and terminal building work.

An official statement issued here on Friday states that the KGLC consortium were the lowest bidders for taking up the runway works, while the Herve Pomerleau International (Canada) and CCC Ltd joint venture were the lowest bidders for the terminal building work.

Handling capacity

The master plan design of the terminal has been developed through a global architect design competition.

The development plan focuses on enhancement of the runway and apron capacity, apart from the terminal building.

The new domestic terminal will be able to handle 10 million passengers annually, while the extension of the existing international terminal will add an additional annual capacity of 7 million passengers.

Cabinet nod

The Union Cabinet gave AAI the nod to start development and modernisation of the Chennai airport recently.

The restructuring is expected to cost about Rs 1,800 crore.
