Now, bullet-proof locomotives

Perhaps for the first time in the country, the locomotives are being made bullet-proof. The first batch of eight locomotives — in operation in areas served by North Frontier Railway (NFR) — have already been made bullet-proof and the Railway Board has given approval for similar upgradation for 34 more. This follows upsurge in extremist violence in the North East, leading to suspension of rail movement, particularly passenger trains, for over two months in Lumdi ng-Badarpur-Silchar section in North Cachar Hills under NFR.
