Chennai, Aug. 24 Chennai-based corporate courier company Xpress Deliveries launched its retail courier business unit, Speedmail Deliveries, recently.

The Director of the company, Mr S. Vijayakumar, said Speedmail would initially cover Chennai with 30 franchisees and expand to other cities in Tamil Nadu by next March.

Despite technological advancement in transferring data electronically, the need to transport documents is on the rise and opening up opportunities.

The current market size of the courier industry is estimated at Rs 7,000 crore and the industry is growing at 25 per cent a year. Since the company has established its presence in corporate sector in few places in southern India, it is entering retail courier business, which would help expand its portfolio, he said.
