Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 24 The Chairman of State Bank of India, Mr O.P. Bhatt, has inaugurated the first biometric ATM of the group in the country at Munnar in Kerala. The Chairman also distributed loans to farmers of Vattavada village of Idukki district for fruit and vegetable cultivation. He expressed the hope that the loans would help the farmers avoid indebtedness to moneylenders. According to a press release from the bank, SBI has helped over 1,10,000 farmers in the State under this scheme with loans totalling over Rs 50 crore. Mr Bhatt also declared the adoption of the Kulasekhapuram village in Kerala under State Bank’s Apna Gaon Scheme, while inaugurating SBI’s high-tech branch at Amrithapuri. According to the release, the bank has adopted girl children from weaker sections of society all over the country.
