Railways SER posts 45% growth in freight earnings Our Bureau Kolkata, Aug. 26 Till August 20, South Eastern Railway (SER) posted 13 per cent growth (5.14 million tonnes) in traffic throughput at 45.66 million tonnes (mt) as compared to 40.52 mt in the same period of last year but the freight earnings during the period at Rs 2842.22 crore (Rs 1964.38 crore) were up by Rs 877.84 crore or around 45 per cent thanks to steep rise in freight rates. This was revealed at a coordination meeting organised by SER with user industries here on Tuesday. The freight loading target for the current fiscal has been set at 124 mt. Several issues such as penal demurrage, difficulties in night loading in 24-hour goods sheds and route rationalisation from freight point of view were raised by the representatives of the user industries present at the meeting and these included, among others, Steel Authority of India Ltd, Bharat Coking Coal Ltd, Eastern Coalfields Ltd, Lafarge Cement, Orissa Cement, ACC, Ultratech Cement, Hindalco, Tata Chemicals, Jindal Steel & Power, Usha Martin, Jai Balaji Steel, Rungta Mines, Electrosteel, Essel Mining, Tata Sponge Iron, Monnet Ispat, MPS Steel, East India Minerals and Rashmi Metallics. From SER, the General Manager, Mr A.K. Jain, the Additional General Manager, Mr S.K. Chaudhuri, the Chief Operations Manager, Mr S.K. Guru, and the Chief Commercial Manager, Mr P.S.
