Our Bureau Kolkata, Aug. 26 The Trinamool Congress continued with the blockade in Singur for the third consecutive day on Tuesday, as part of its agitation demanding the return of 400 acres of farm land that has been acquired from “unwilling” farmers for the Tata small car project. The State Government sent the District Magistrate of Hooghly as an emissary with a request to Ms Mamata Banerjee of the Trinamool Congress to lift the blockade so that thousands of trucks stranded on National Highway No. 2 with perishables and food products could reach their destinations. Ms Banerjee, however, did not yield to the request. Instead, she said that the blockade would be lifted only when the 400 acres were returned to the farmers. Ms Banerjee was critical of the State Government and said the Opposition was “moving with patience in the interest of the people”. Meanwhile, the State administration is keen on ensuring that at least one flank of the National Highway No. 2 is opened to vehicular traffic as early as possible.
