Shipping/Ports Industry & Economy - Infrastructure Mangalore SEZ plans dedicated corridor to New Mangalore port A.J. Vinayak Mangalore, Aug. 27 To make way for smooth movement of goods between the New Mangalore port (NMP) and the Mangalore SEZ (special economic zone) and to bring down pressure on public infrastructure, Mangalore SEZ Ltd (MSEZL) is planning to set up a dedicated road-cum-pipeline corridor. Mr I.S.N. Prasad, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MSEZL, told Business Line that the dedicated corridor will be of 13 km long from NMP to the end of SEZ area. This would help minimise the tanker movement from the port to the SEZ area. The vehicle movement can happen without eating into the public infrastructure, he said. In the corridor, pipe racks would be put up, and those companies which are putting up their units within the SEZ can put their own pipeline. “We will keep racks ready one on the top of other. Most of imported liquid, which is required within the SEZ, can come through pipelines from the ship itself. And the finished products, can go back in the pipeline,” he said. Asked if the work has begun on the corridor, he said certain land issues to be resolved before taking any civil works. “We are still resolving the land issue,” he said. To a query on the estimated project cost, he said decision on this is yet to be taken up. “We have two-three alternatives depending upon the design of the corridor. We have not yet taken any decision on which design to adopt,” he added. More Stories on : Shipping/Ports | Infrastructure
