Garment exporters seek relief from power cuts

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, Aug. 27 Garment exporters from Tirupur have sought exemption from power cut which they fear would not only cause production loss but would also hit business in future as well.

In a representation to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister, Mr N.Veerasamy, the President of Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA), Mr A. Sakthivel, said the TNEB announcement imposing power cuts in the evenings, if continued, would hit the export organisations in Tirupur. The exporters are already facing a plethora of problems such as increase in raw material, transport and production costs.

Power cut would hit production and the exporters would not be able to meet the commitments they had already made to their foreign buyers. This would not only cause economic loss but would affect the future business as well.

He said it would be impossible to regain the lost export market and the electronic machines would be damaged due to fluctuations in power supply.
