Our Bureau

Kakinada, Aug. 27 The upland mandals in East Godavari district are suitable for jute cultivation and the crop should be encouraged, as there is good demand for jute diversified products in India and abroad, according to Mr. Gopalakrishna Dwivedi, the collector.

He was addressing a jute awareness camp organised here on Wednesday by the AP Jute Development Centre Ltd (APJDC).

He said crop diversification was necessary in the district and other parts of the State and jute could be encouraged. He suggested to the joint director, agriculture, Mr. T. Nandaiah, to take up jute cultivation in 100 acres or so next year.

Mr B.V Rama Rao, Managing Director of APJDC, said similar camps would be organised in other parts of the State to make farmers aware of the potential of jute cultivation.
