Industry Associations Nasscom backs UK’s immigration system Our Bureau New Delhi, Aug. 27 Software association Nasscom has expressed its support to UK’s new point-based system , which will govern intra-company transfers and work permits, and advised its member companies to register for the system on priority. “The new PBS system will transform the immigration process and operationally make it more efficient, in addition to simplifying this for companies. The UK Home Office’s PBS is applicable to all companies that employ workers in the UK. This is very critical given the UK Home Office’s announcements on October 1 being the last date of applications and November 24 as the date when the new system goes live,” a Nasscom statement said here. This means professionals wanting to go to or remain in the UK on an intra-company transfer (ICT) or work permit would need to show that they have points to qualify under the new points-based system (PBS). Underpinning the new immigration system is a five-tier framework. The five tiers have different conditions, entitlements and entry-clearance checks. Largely, Nasscom member companies would fall under tier 2 under which, the issue of all ICTs and work permits would be done through the employers. Hence, all employers in the UK must apply for a licence to sponsor to bring skilled professionals on work permits or ICTs into the UK. The PBS for tier 2 goes live on November 24, and employers seeking licence to become sponsors need to apply by October 1. More Stories on : Industry Associations | Travel & Places
