States better placed: Fitch

Mumbai, Aug. 28

States are better placed to absorb the impact of the Sixth Pay Commission as compared to the earlier pay revision, according to a report released by Fitch Ratings. The report says the buoyant tax and VAT collections would help States manage the negative impact of the pay revision on their finances. Fitch’s findings are based on the present economic growth trends and the fiscal situation of the States. However, the report says the financial flexibility of the fiscally weaker States would be negatively affected and would put pressure on their budgets. —
