Ensure free traffic flow on Durgapur highway: HC

Our Legal Correspondent

Kolkata, Aug 29

Mr Justice Patheriya on Friday directed the National Highway Authority of India to ensure that there was free flow of vehicles through the Durgapur Express Highway with the help of authorities concerned.

The Calcutta Goods Transport Association had filed a writ petition alleging that the police had not taken any action on the complaint of the association, also stating that due to an agitation, thousands of trucks laden with essential commodities, had been stranded on the Durgapur Expressway.

The petition said the police was not taking steps for free movement of vehicles on the road.

Another public interest litigation has been filed about the road blockade at Singur before the Chief Justice, Mr S.S. Nijjar, and Mr Justice Dipankar Dutta today.

The court has directed the parties to file affidavits.
