Chennai, Aug. 29 Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) will organise a Trans-World Endurance Drive from Delhi to Paris as a part of the celebrations to mark the tenth anniversary of its India operations next month.

The company’s Managing Director, Mr H.S. Lheem, told Business Line that the objective of the drive was to celebrate 10 years of Hyundai Motor in India besides proving the quality and reliability of the new car, the i10 Kappa.

The 9,122-km endurance drive will start from Delhi on September 9 and go through 11 countries including Turkey, Italy and Germany to reach the final destination — Paris on September 28.

Two right-hand drive i10 cars powered by Kappa engine would cover the Indian leg between Delhi and Chennai, while similar cars with left-hand drive option would be used for the European leg. Two cars would be air-freighted to Turkey soon, he said.

A service car would be sourced from distributors and an official from HMIL service would accompany the drive. The drive would be taken up by motoring journalists from India, he said.

Since its launch about a year ago, HMIL has sold 71,500 units of the i10 in the domestic market and exported 67,100 units. Currently it has an order for 15,000 units from the overseas market. With the launch of Kappa engine, the company has seen the demand for i10 with the new engine growing significantly.
