Radhakrishna enters airport kiosk business

Anjana Chandramouly

Bangalore, Aug. 29 Radhakrishna Hospitality Services, a food service, facilities management and vending solutions company, has recently entered the airport kiosk business with ‘Nukkad’ — a ‘grab and go’ eatery — at the Bengaluru International Airport in Devanahalli. The eatery, open 24x7, offers multi-cuisine offerings and is located in the common area for both arrival and departure at the terminal building.

“The travel sector is something we started focusing on in the past two years,” said Mr Sunil Nayak, CEO, Radhakrishna Hospitality Services (RKHS). “The airport kiosk is part of our strategy to tap the potential that airports, highways and railways have to offer,” he added.

Investment in an airport kiosk could be anywhere between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 55 lakh, “depending on the offerings,” he said. There is usually a choice of Indian food, sandwiches, puffs and beverages. According to him, the eatery caters to around 1,000-1,200 customers on a daily basis with approximate revenues of Rs 65,000-70,000.

Expansion plan

The company plans to launch similar kiosks in other existing airports and also the upcoming/planned ones around the country. “We already have a RKHS Expresso (the sandwich brand) and a coffee outlet at the international terminal of the Mumbai International Airport, and a coffee outlet at the domestic terminal of the same airport,” Mr Nayak said. “We would look at Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi airports. We are also expanding our business at Mumbai,” he added. The company is in discussion with many other airports.
