Airlines United Airways to start Dhaka-Kolkata daily flights Our Bureau Kolkata, Aug. 29 United Airways Bangladesh Ltd will start daily flight operations between Dhaka and Kolkata from September 24, said Mr Jilanee F.R. Choudhry, Director, Marketing and Sales, here on Thursday. The airline, currently operating in the domestic sector in Bangladesh, also plans to operate two weekly flights from Dhaka to other destinations such as Mumbai, Chennai, Kathmandu and Guwahati from the middle of next year, he said. There are also plans to start Chittagong-Kolkata flights, he added. The Dhaka-Kolkata flight would initially be operated once daily. Nearly 22.5 lakh passengers travel between India and Bangladesh annually, Mr Choudhry said, adding that the passenger base has been growing at 8-10 per cent. “There is tremendous growth potential in air travel between Kolkata and Dhaka as the maximum foreign travellers coming to India is registered from Bangladesh,” he said. The Kolkata operation will be started with two Dash-8-100 aircraft each having capacity of 37 seats. For other long distance international flights, it would buy six aircraft of the Airbus 310 and Boeing 737, 800 categories, he said. The public listed company plans to raise Rs 2,000 crore in the next five years. More Stories on : Airlines
