Cochin Port to adopt new shift timings

Our Bureau

KOCHI, Aug 30

The Cochin Port Trust has decided to change the shift timings in the Traffic Department with effect from Septemebr 1.

The introduction of the new timings with hot seat exchange system is a long pending demand of the port users. As per the new timings, the first shift starts from 6 am - 2 pm instead of 7 am to 2 pm. The second shift will be from 2 pm to 10 pm instead of 3 pm to 11 pm and the third shift will be from 10 pm to 6 am as against 11 pm to 7 am.

Earlier there was no hot seat exchnage system and on account of this, the continuity of work was affected. With the introduction of the new system, the users will be getting additional three hours of working.

When the port had decided to introduce hot seat exchange system earlier, there was some opposition from workers due to non availability of proper transport and canteen facilites.

However, the port has taken necessary steps to sort out all the issues and the workers have agreed to co-operate with the management.
