Expo planned at Ocean Race village

Our Bureau

Kochi, Aug. 31 A review meeting of Volvo Ocean Race India Stopover has decided to set up an exhibition pavilion at the race village to house about 250 prime exhibitors from different parts of India.

This was decided at a meeting held by Mr N. Ramachandran, Chairman, Cochin Port Trust, and Dr V. Venu, Secretary, Kerala Tourism here. Exhibitors from sectors such as boats and marine equipment, travel and tourism, seafood and spices, textiles and jewellery, ayurveda and healthy living, housing and home alliances, banking and finance, IT and communications, arts and crafts, glamour and lifestyle etc will be given stalls in prime locations inside the race village, which is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors daily.

Huge crowd expected

The visitors will include international tourists, businesspersons coming as hospitality guests of various companies related to the race and racing teams, domestic tourists as well as the local public and students. December being the peak tourist season in Kerala, it is felt that the exhibition pavilion will attract huge crowd daily during December 3-13.

As enquiries have already started coming in for space in the race village, the organisers have decided to invite expression of interest for conduct of the exhibition.

The review meeting was attended by officers of Cochin Port Trust, Kerala Tourism, Yachting Association of India, the event managers (Ocean Blue and Stark) and the marketing & sponsorship garnering team (CNBC-TV18 and Screenery).
