Firm trend at Kochi tea auction

While major blenders and domestic market players were active at the dust tea sale, exporters lent good support at the leaf tea auction, especially in orthodox varieties and fannings.

Some amount of support also came from interstate buyers in the dust varieties. They were also active at select CTC leaf counters. There were 8.45 lakh kg of dust tea on offer where bolder CTC varieties remained steady to dearer while orthodox high grown dust remained firm. Medium and secondary orthodox also witnessed a dearer market. Best CTC dust varieties quoted Rs 85-95, medium CTC fetched Rs 78-82 and below medium was at Rs 70-75. High grown BOPD fetched Rs 112-116, medium BOPD ranged at Rs 68-70 and secondaries were at Rs 61-65.

Leaf Sale

There were 3.78 lakh kg of leaf tea on auction where high grown orthodox broken and whole leaf grades quoted lower. Other high grown varieties, medium orthodox broken and fannings were dearer. Prices of poor orthodox variety tended to be lower. Good CTC varieties and fannings also remained steady. Prices of medium broken varieties eased.

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 94-125, medium orthodox was at Rs 90-108 while plain orthodox ranged at Rs 70-80. Best CTC leaf quoted Rs 72-78 while medium CTC leaf was at Rs 65-70.

Top Prices

At the dust auction, Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 116 followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 113, Kilkotagiri BOPD at Rs 112 and Monica SFD at Rs 103. In the leaf auction Nonsuch FOP fetched the top price at Rs 142 followed by Havukal FOP at Rs 140 and Chamraj FOP at Rs 137.
